The AR 4201 has intercom, panel-lighting, voltage indicator, an AF-input as well as an automatic test-routine as standard functions. A standby frequency and 99 memories can be easily programmed and recalled. The equipment has an output of 5 to 7 Watts carrier (16 W PEP). Due to the implementation of the most modern technology it has been possible to minimize the depth of the module, including the connector, to less than 9 inches. The AR 4201 radio is ideal for installation in gliders, motor gliders and small aircraft due to its low power requirement and 2 1/4 inch round panel cutout. The clear, sunlight readable LCD display shows the active frequency and either the standby frequency, the memory channel used or the supply voltage and also the external temperature (with the optional temperature sensor). The Becker AR 4201 aircraft radio is an extremely small and lightweight transceiver that offers 760 channels and is certified for use in VFR and IFR equipped aircraft. You want them delivered with a WARRANTY and a "Serviceable" tag (Form 8130)Ī good replacement at a reasonable price, that fits in 2.25 inch instrument hole, and weighs less than 1.5 pounds would be a Becker. Stay away from online auction sales, however unless they are hosted by a legit dealer. I do not consider it "foolish" to buy used radios if they are obtained from respectable avionics dealers. As Bruce pointed out.they were top-of-the-line when new. I had used Collins VHF 251's installed in my Baron and 20 years later they are still working for the present owner just fine. The Collins 250 is a mechanical display, which gets away from the illuminated-display repair-costs.but the mechanical gears can also fail, of course. I do need to pull my Apollo Loran though.ĭo NOT consider my prevous post "confirmation" it will fit! You will have to check with your avionics installer to determine LENGTH as the Collins is long. If i bought a new one it would be my main radio but then it would screw up the symmetry of my Panel. Are they good radios? Would it be foolish to spend that money on a used radio? Mostly I would use it for checking ATIS etc. Gparker wrote:I had seen a Collins unit and I thought it might fit-thanks for the confirmation.
